Frequently Asked Questions

Why is World Geography one of the most essential subjects my student can take?

Because understanding the world is essential to understanding life, geography isn’t just about maps; it explains how people live, why cultures develop the way they do, and how history, politics, and the environment shape our daily lives. A student who understands geography is better prepared to navigate an increasingly global world.

How does this class help my students think globally?

Students don’t just memorize facts; they explore:

  • How geography impacts history, politics, and current events
  • How people around the world live, work, and overcome challenges
  • Why understanding other cultures builds empathy and global awareness

This perspective is critical in a world where colleges and employers value cultural understanding and global thinking.

What makes this class different from other geography courses?

Traditional geography often focuses on memorization. This course is immersive and interactive.

Students will:

  • “Travel” using videos, podcasts, Google Street View, and photojournalism
  • Play games that make key concepts stick
  • Complete creative projects (slideshows, games, and projects) to show mastery
  • Explore ethnic foods, wildlife, and cultural traditions that bring  learning to life
What academic and life skills will my student gain?
  • Research & Presentation Skills – Valuable for any high school or college course
  • Critical Thinking – Understanding how geography shapes global events
  • Cultural Appreciation – A broader, more informed worldview.

Class Description

World Geography

Worth 1 High School Credit

What if your teen could travel the world, without leaving home? World Geography is not your typical textbook geography class. Through immersive videos, interactive websites, podcasts, Google Street View, photojournalism, and even games, students will gain an experience of the people, places, and cultures that shape our world.

This engaging course offers students a global perspective, enabling them to understand how geography influences their daily lives, culture, politics, and history. Rather than memorizing maps and definitions, students will explore how real people, the challenges they face, and the fascinating ways geography shapes our world.

What Students Will Learn

Geography Concepts – Understand physical and human geography, borders, and global conflicts.
Countries, People & Animals – Meet the people, wildlife, and unique landscapes of every continent.
Culture & Ethnic Foods – Discover how culture, religion, and cuisine reflect geography.
A Bit of World History – Learn how history and geography connect to today’s current events.

Students will:

  • Research & Create: Show mastery through slideshows, projects, and games.
  • Interact & Explore: Use Google Street View to “walk” city streets, watch documentary-style videos, and play geography games that make learning stick.
  • Think Critically: Discuss real-world issues and challenges that people worldwide face.

There are short quizzes but no traditional tests. Learning is measured by exploration, creativity, and understanding.

By the end of the course, students will not only know where places are on a map, but they’ll also gain a deep appreciation for world cultures, environments, and people that make up our world.

This is a fun class where I was able to look at maps and talk about other places in the world. It’s a good time and very chill. I’m glad I’m taking it. Also the maps that we do really push you to learn the geography of where you’re studying.
