About Julia
Julia Jinks brings years of professional storytelling to her classes. She holds a B.S. in Communications from the University of Tennessee and began her career producing the Noon News at a CBS affiliate before writing for a popular HGTV home-improvement show.
When she became a mom, she homeschooled her four children — and, like many families, hit a wall with writing until she discovered the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW). It transformed how her kids wrote and inspired her to teach hundreds of other students the same way: clear, approachable, and genuinely fun. She is also a children’s leader in Bible Study Fellowship and loves hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Experience & Credentials
An IEW-trained instructor, Julia teaches gamified courses for junior high and high school — American Literature and Composition, Junior High Literature and Composition, Histopoly (gamified U.S. History), World Geography, Career Exploration, and Personal Finance — using the Socratic method and The Center for Literature. Her goal for every class: that students learn to read and write with confidence and think critically.

What Students & Families Say
I enjoyed the books and materials we read — they were engaging and interesting! Mrs. Jinks did a great job discussing the stories with us.
This class helped me become a better writer, with assignments that made it click. Not only did I like the work — I loved Mrs. Jinks and my classmates!
I enjoyed Personal Finance with Ms. Jinks. Knowing how to budget is a skill everyone can benefit from — I definitely recommend it for all students.
