IEW Trained Instructor Julia Jinks

Julia Jinks brings years of professional experience and a passion for teaching to her classes. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Tennessee and has spent her life crafting stories and helping others communicate effectively.

Julia began her career as a producer for the Noon News at the local CBS affiliate, where she honed her storytelling and writing skills. She later worked for HGTV, writing for a popular home improvement show. When she became a mom, she homeschooled her four children, creating an educational experience tailored to their needs.

Like many families, Julia’s children initially found writing challenging—until she introduced them to the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW). This program transformed how her kids approached writing, building a strong foundation that carried them through high school and college.

Inspired by her family’s success, Julia taught hundreds of other students writing using IEW’s principles. She focuses on making writing clear, approachable, and engaging, equipping students with essential skills for academic and personal success.

In addition to teaching, Julia is a children’s leader in the Bible Study Fellowship and enjoys hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.

If you’re looking for a writing teacher who understands how to make writing accessible and enjoyable, Julia Jinks is an excellent choice. Her experience as both a professional writer and a homeschooling mom gives her an exceptional perspective on how to help students thrive.

Julia began her career producing and writing newscasts for CBS. She later wrote for a home improvement show on HGTV, further honing her professional writing skills. As a homeschooling mom of four, Julia discovered her true passion—teaching writing and helping students unlock their potential.

With a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Tennessee, Julia has taught countless students through engaging writing, literature, and history classes. She believes that the ability to write well is one of the most essential tools students can develop for academic and personal success, and she finds immense joy in guiding them to discover their creative voices.
