True North Homeschool Academy is different. And we’re okay with that! Our small class size, live dynamic online classes set us apart from every other homeschooling experience available to parents today. You know what? Our parents and students love it!
True North Homeschool Academy is Homeschooling with a Difference
Most parents arrive at the decision to homeschool from a conviction that they can do education differently. We support that decision, because we know they can.
Our mission at True North Homeschool Academy is centered around the Compass, and that’s by design. It’s the heart of what we do, because we are heading True North with the Christian conviction that together our homeschools should transmit a culture of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, as we are headed True North, rooted in Christ.
True North Homeschool Academy is a virtual online learning experience with small class size, dynamic teaching from world-class teachers, with a focus on creating a one-of-a-kind educational experience families will love.
Our over ten-year commitment to this vision and to the families that partner with us have proven we’re on the right-track.
Homeschooling families have a lot of options when it comes to homeschooling. So, what makes True North Homeschool Academy different?
It’s our FOCUS.
- Families first. Over the last ten years, we’ve been something special; a homeschooling community of families with a common goal. That goal? To provide the highest quality of education with a Christian worldview.
- Outside of the Box approach to teaching & learning. We use the SAMR method of education. This framework is applied to the homeschool model through technology, gamification, multimedia presentations, publishing, and more. This not only eliminates the boredom factor, it prepares students for life, work, and mission in the modern world.
- Cutting-edge technology. Our kids know their way around tech today, and our teachers use tried and true modern tech to reach the students. Classes are via Zoom with breakout rooms for class communication. Inside our learning management system, we host a true online virtual campus.
- Undeniable results. Families that start with True North Homeschool Academy stay with us. Why? Results. Our teachers, staff, and families partner to educate, inspire, and delight students. Kids love their classes, and they are part of an international community. The educational results are icing on the homeschool cake.
- Service. Every class offered, every teacher hired, and every decision made is with you in mind. As we strive to be a light to the world, we also strive to serve our families and the homeschool community. And the feedback from families shows we’re onto something!
I’ve been a student at True North Homeschool Academy for 3 years and have really enjoyed my experience with the teachers! All the classes are over zoom so it is a live classroom experience, and you get to interact with the other students and ask the teachers if you do have any questions. I highly recommend doing schooling through True North!
True North Homeschool Academy’s Formula is Student-Focused, Academically Sound, and Intentional About Relationships
We know there are a sea of homeschool curriculum options available to you. We also understand opting for an online homeschool experience might be intimidating. Rest assured, we’re here to support YOU in YOUR homeschooling journey.
Everything we do, every class offered, every teacher hired is with you in mind.
Homeschooling should be:
- fun
- build your family relationships
- be academically strong, and engaging.
Our teachers are available to students and parents with a quick email or during the live, dynamic teaching. Students connect during class, making new friends. Students see that there are other homeschoolers in this world, learning alongside them. Parents can know these parents have the same core values (it’s baked into our homeschool pedagogy and mission statement!) It’s the True North Homeschool Academy difference.
What Sets True North Homeschool Academy Apart
What do we mean by live, dynamic, small class size? Is this important when it comes to choose a homeschool curriculum or class? Listen in as Lisa Nehring talks about what makes True North Homeschool Academy amazing.
True North Homeschool Academy Focuses on a Learning Pathway Built On The Idea That Education is the Transmission of Culture
So, what does that mean, exactly? Simply put, the Judeo-Christian worldview that many homeschooling parents adhere to should work hand-in-hand with the educational decisions made for their children. A quick look at the public school system demonstrates the way a transmission of culture contrary to your personally held convictions results in a society (individuals, families, churches, and nations) at odds with what Christian parents want for their kids.
What kind of culture do we want to transmit? What are we building? We believe that parents aren’t just a child’s first teacher, they are the primary agent responsible for transmitting a culture of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. It only makes sense to partner with a homeschool educator who understands that and supports those efforts. That’s what we do at True North Homeschool Academy through carefully vetted teachers, class choices, and academic advising.
We set out to accomplish this through a learning pathway that includes:
Parents as the Heartbeat of Our Decision Making
Lisa and her webinar on Homeschooling through middle school was an answer to prayer! I feel so much more prepared and confident for being able to educate my children not on in middle school, but in high school in preparation for college as well! Thank you, Lisa and True North for easing this Mama’s anxiety! God bless you!
You’re the parent. It’s that simple. We’re parents, too, so we’ve been in your shoes. We want to support and encourage parents who’ve made the important decision to homeschool, because we’re sold on homeschooling! We strive to provide excellent content delivery from passionate teachers but more importantly: the opportunity for each student to grow in skill, ability, and wisdom.
World Class Teachers Who Support Homeschooling and the Judeo-Christian Worldview
Our son has been in the “Struggling Learner” Reading and Math Games classes with Mrs. Vickery this academic year and it has been the single most positive influence on our entire homeschool. Mrs. Vickery is an amazing resource and gifted teacher. We have come leaps and bounds in progress in reading fluency and in math facts and value awareness. We are beyond grateful.
True North Homeschool Academy teachers are a group of passionate, qualified, creative educators providing carefully curated Core Courses and Clubs, delivered by utilizing cutting-edge technology, gamification, and solid academic pedagogy. We understand the unique challenges and opportunities of homeschooling.
Our educators have a passion for teaching, a passion for their subjects, and a heart committed to demonstrating Christ-like leadership in the classroom and beyond.
Live, Online Dynamic Classes Your That Enable Students to Grow and Flourish
My son is in True North Academy Spanish for Children class. It has been such a positive experience and blessing for our family. He has learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed the classes. I love that classes are live and everyone can see each other. This is especially important for language study. We will definitely be taking more courses from True North Academy.
We offer live (via Zoom) online, dynamic (access to the teacher and class interaction), classes based on the SAMR model of education.
The SAMR model of education is framework of education that “… is a framework that orders strategies for classroom technology implementation into four stages.“
S- Substitution A- Augmentation M- Modification R- Redefinion.
This framework is applied to the homeschool model through the use of technology, gamification, multi-media presentations, publishing, and more.
Lisa walks us through the SAMR Model of education as a framework is vital to our kids as they engage with a world surrounded by technology.
International Community of Learners
We have had such a positive experience that she has signed up for another class for the second semester. She will again be able to efficiently complete a year of study time in one semester and be ready to test out of another college credit when she is done.
Our kids live in a different world than most of us did growing up. Will they be prepared to learn, live, work, and be a witness to Truth in a global community?
At True North Homeschool Academy we embrace our international community and have students from all over the world. How cool is it that your kids will make friends (in a shared safe space) from around the world? And as they grow in wisdom and knowledge and understanding, developing a global mindset, they begin to see themselves as part of a larger community, where they can interact and make an impact for Truth, Goodness, and Beauty in the world.
Academic Excellence as a Foundation and Result
As a newer homeschooling parent of a child with learning disabilities, I was struggling to find the right fit for math. I learned about Math Games for Struggling Learners and we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! Amy Vickrey has been a wonderful teacher to our daughter. She is kind, patient, knowledgeable, and, as a parent of a child with special needs herself, is in tune with my daughter’s attention and behavior. As a parent, I have been able to watch the lessons and learn ways to work at home to enrich my daughter’s math experience! Thank you Lisa Nehring for recommending we check out True North Academy!
Academic excellence is important, and our teachers are committed to providing carefully curated content. But, academic excellence is more than our foundation. It’s also a result of teaching our kids to grow in wisdom, the application of the SAMR model, and a strong homeschool pedagogy. We offer classes that support academic excellence for struggling learners, honors students, and students who prefer an interest-led approach to homeschooling.
How It All Works
First, choose your classes.
You can shop our full-year classes here. Or take a smaller step and join us for our Summer or Semester classes. You get to decide what your homeschool is going to look like! We also have classes for struggling learners. There really is something for everyone.
Secondly, Enroll Your Student
Next, after you’ve been through the checkout process you’ll be prompted via email to formally enroll your student. Each student will need to complete an enrollment form, even if sharing a class. Our administration team will reach out to you with next steps.
I’m writing to inform you that I just placed my order for my son’s 6 class bundle and the placement test for my two kids. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to answer my questions last week. It solidified the deal as we have been looking for a school that is intentional about relationships. We’re looking forward to getting to know you and your team more.
Common Questions about True North Homeschool Academy
What does a typical week look like?
Our course Syllabus is housed in our secure online campus and each parent and student has access to this, along with the course schedule at all times. Each class differs in the amount of homework, but typically students will attend class and then have reading, assignments, videos, and projects to work on during the week. The expectations are clearly stated and teachers are available throughout the week to give feedback and help as needed.
Are there specific times my child will need to be online?
For our live online classes, yes. Our classes are delivered live online via Zoom. You can download Zoom for free and you will receive an invite to class from your teacher. We do have students who cannot attend classes, and they watch the class recording. For the Classical Memory with Claritas classes, we do not record the information that is specific to Claritas (new memory work and memory review).
Are there required materials for the classes?
Each teacher will assign any necessary materials required to participate in the coursework. If you purchase the class but do not purchase the required materials for the class, this will void the refund policy. Any questions regarding required materials and refund policies should be directed to Lisa through “myschoolapp”
What if my child struggles with the material?
Students have access to the teacher– they are all just a message away! Messages are usually answered within 24 hours during the week.
Will my child receive a grade?
Yes, our teachers give and grade assignments, and students receive a Semester 1 Grade Report and End-of-Year Grade Report.
How Do I Know Where to Start?
We do offer Advising Services. Academic advising equips parents and students with a personalized plan including tutoring or guidance for testing, career, and special needs as well as help with creating transcripts, grading, test prep, and more.
You’re the parent, and you may have a very good idea of where your student should start! We also have the True North Homeschool Tribe where you can ask questions and get feedback.
