Description

By May, your student can look at a moving object and tell you its velocity, the forces acting on it, and where its energy went.

Physics is a full-year live online physics class for high school covering matter, energy, and how the two interact. Across two fifteen-week semesters students work through speed, velocity and acceleration, Newton’s three laws, vectors and forces, kinetic and potential energy, conservation of energy and matter, rotational and projectile motion, thermodynamics and heat, waves and sound, light, lenses and refraction, electric circuits and electromagnetism, atomic structure and radioactivity, and cosmology.

Melissa Grande teaches it as a problem-and-lab course: practice exercises, quizzes, laboratory experiments, and written lab reports, with digital simulations and virtual labs for the forces and motion that are hard to see any other way.

Expect roughly three to five hours of work each week. Students with no formal lab report training keep The Student Lab Report Handbook on hand as a reference.

Physics is also where the precision of creation becomes hard to ignore. The predictability of natural law, as this class treats it, is a testimony to the wisdom that wrote it.

Melissa Grande, True North’s STEAM Department Chair, holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Valley Forge and postgraduate work in Environmental Science.

“My favorite part of this class were the hands-on labs, like building a solar car. It helped me realize all of the science and physics around me in day-to-day life.”
— Brogan

  1. Chloe Lundgren –

I took this class last year and absolutely loved it! Dr. Moon is just an incredible teacher, and even though the topic was challenging I felt like we moved through everything at a pretty good pace and I felt like I understood everything pretty well.

  2. Gage –

“I enjoyed this class because it helped me learn a lot of interesting things about the world and universe that I didn’t know of before!” – Gage

  3. Sam –

“I really enjoyed the math in this class! It also helped me with my time management skills with how the lessons were organized.” – Sam

  4. TNA Student –

“I like the way Mrs. Grande used examples and demonstrated concepts because it made it easier to understand. This class helped me improve my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I learned how to analyze information, make connections between ideas, and explain my reasoning more clearly when answering science questions.” – Anonymous

  5. TNA Student –

“I liked the fact we were able to make choices regarding how to do certain projects or labs to make it a bit more interesting for each individual student (like the primary vs. secondary research project for the science fair).” – Anonymous

  6. Brogan –

“My favorite part of this lab were the hands on labs, like building a solar car. It helped me to realize all of the science and physics around me in day to day life.” – Brogan
