Description
A middle schooler who meets history as a list of dates forgets it by June. One who meets it as a story can tell you why it mattered years later.
That conviction shapes this online middle school world history class. Students travel the modern era in order, from global exploration and the age of revolutions through the world wars to the nations we live with now, following the people, events, and ideas that formed it.
The narrative approach is deliberate: the class asks not only what happened but why it mattered and how it still shapes the world today. Along the way students build historical comprehension and sequencing, cause-and-effect thinking, and geography connections, and they practice listening, narration, and discussion, which is harder work than it sounds and exactly what high school history will ask of them.
Weekly readings, class discussion, timeline work, and manageable assignments carry the year, with no busywork.
It suits the student who learns best through stories and big-picture connections, who is curious about how the past reaches into the present, and who is moving from elementary history into real middle school coursework.

“I really enjoyed all the discussions and assignments we had this year! You got me really thinking about big thoughts and almost every day after class I would be interested and tell my mom about what we had been discussing. This was my first year taking an English class through True North and you made it wonderful!” 5/5 stars; S.F. (student) April 2023”
