Description

Biblical Feasts and Festivals have been celebrated by the Jewish people for centuries.  Wherever they have lived – from the land of Israel in Biblical times, through various lands in the Diaspora, and in the modern State of Israel – they have marked these festivals.  The festivals influence all aspects of life. They are sanctified in prayer, observed in laws and customs, and even inspire music, food, and dress.

These are the feasts of the Lord, holy convocations, which you shall proclaim at their appointed times (Leviticus 23:4).

In this class, we will explore the sacred times of the Hebrew Bible.

Biblical Feasts and Festivals topics will include:

  • The history and structure of the Jewish calendar
  • Shabbat – the Sabbath
  • Celebrating the new month
  • The three pilgrimage festivals
  • Festivals of the new year
  • Hebrew Bible festivals that were added in later times

Our primary text is the Hebrew Bible (the Tanakh- the first five books of the Bible): each student will be required to study designated passages in preparation for the class and to have a copy of the Hebrew Bible in class.

Through this course, we hope to see how these Biblical Feasts and Festivals have shaped – and continue to shape – the lives of families and communities.

This course is suitable for motivated Jr High School students through adult.

This course is like non-other and will view the Scriptures through the eyes of a Jewish scholar. Perfect for those interested in the Jewish roots of the Bible, how the Old Testament informs the New, for those looking to practice the Biblical Feasts and Festivals, and of course, those seeking to truly understand the Bible and how it informs our lives today- this course is for you!

One Semester Course – 1/2 Credit: Your True North Homeschool Academy teacher will teach and grade the class. The coursework your child will complete in this high school level course is equal to one half credit hour which may be awarded by your homeschool upon completion of the course. If you want help determining your students’ credits or creating a transcript, check out our Academic Advising.

This course would be a perfect addition to either Modern or Biblical Hebrew language studies.

One of the best classes that I have ever taken! This class taught me so much about the old testament and inspired me to read the Bible more. (yes, even the daunting parts… like Leviticus!) Rabbi is the bomb, and can take whatever questions you throw at him… even the dumb ones. Absolutely recommend this class to every Christian wanting to go deeper into the Bible!

This class makes the Scriptures come alive in new ways! We have much to learn from the Old Testament, and Rabbi Fisher patiently teaches in a way that will expand your understanding of the Bible. I highly recommend it!
