About Rabbi Fischer

Rabbi Fischer was born and raised in New York City and was drawn early to a deeper commitment to Jewish tradition, eventually earning rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary — alongside a B.A. in English Literature from Yeshiva and an M.A. from New York University.

He has served communities in the U.S., Canada, and Israel as a rabbi, teacher, and cantor, and — under the name Arthur J. Fischer — has acted and directed for Jerusalem community theaters. Since 1986 he and his family have lived in Bet Shemesh, Israel, where he teaches Hebrew from Scriptural to Modern, alongside biblical text, commentary, and Jewish history.

Experience & Credentials

Few classrooms can offer what Rabbi Fischer does: a teacher steeped in the land and language of Scripture, teaching live from Israel. His classes — Biblical Hebrew, Hebrew History, Culture and Conversation, and Biblical Feasts and Festivals — are designed for students ages 12 to 99 who want to read and understand the Bible in a deeper, more personal way.

This class makes the Scriptures come alive in new ways! We have much to learn from the Old Testament, and Rabbi Fischer patiently teaches in a way that will expand your understanding.

I have worked with Rabbi Fischer in Hebrew teaching for several years, and his deep knowledge of the details and subtleties of Hebrew grammar is impressive. He is also a master at curriculum writing.
