Class Description
Foreign Language Exploration is a fantastic opportunity to help your student discover a language they’d like to study in-depth or to provide them with an introduction to the fascinating world of foreign languages.
This 14-week course offers a simple overview of seven different languages, including:
- Latin
- French
- Spanish
- German
- Hebrew
- Russian
Each session is presented by True North Academy teachers, giving students the chance to experience the unique teaching styles of our world-class educators while exploring various languages and cultures.
What to Expect:
- Each language is covered over one to two weeks.
- Topics include the alphabet (if necessary), simple phrases, counting (1–10), and an introduction to culture, geography, and food.
- Students will engage with culture and worldviews, exploring topics like foreign policy and international relations.
Foreign Language Exploration introduces students to various cultures while enhancing language and communication skills. It also encourages creativity and prepares students for the Future of Work, helping them develop study skills and adaptability in an increasingly globalized world.
Required Materials
All materials will be provided by the teachers.
SAMR Model Application
Foreign Language Exploration integrates technology at various levels of the SAMR model:
- Substitution: Students use online tools and the virtual campus to receive and complete assignments, developing essential digital skills for future academic and professional opportunities.
- Augmentation: Online video and audio resources offer an up-close look at cultures from around the world.
- Modification: Students use digital tools to create multimedia presentations combining images and text. They also collaborate and compete through online tools.
- Redefinition: Students take virtual tours of countries, immersing themselves in language and culture in an engaging and interactive format.
