Writing is how a student learns to think. That is the real reason a weak writer struggles in every other subject on the transcript.
Writing with Confidence is a year-long, one-credit live online writing class for high school, college preparatory in the ordinary sense: it ends in a scholarly research paper. The year opens with a review of the introductory five-paragraph essay, advances to a compare-and-contrast paper, and builds to in-depth research.
Along the way Angela Ferrell teaches research method directly, including locating reliable sources, avoiding plagiarism, MLA and APA formats, and the appropriate use of AI technology, plus the essay organization, style and mechanics that keep paying out long after graduation.
Most of the grade comes from weekly assignments that move from outline to finished essay, so the load runs light to moderate to heavy depending on the week, and because the work is cumulative students have to stay caught up. There are semester-end presentations.
A student who struggles with executive function will need an accountability system at home, and Mrs. Ferrell says so plainly rather than letting a family discover it in March.
This is not a beginner’s course. Students need grammar, mechanics, sentence structure, paragraph construction and a working five-paragraph essay before the first class.
Angie Ferrell is a licensed teacher with a master’s in education and curriculum design who teaches history, writing, literature and psychology.

This class is really good for growing your writing and grammar skills. Also, it extends your knowledge from just the MLA format to APA as well, along with citations for both formats. Mrs. Ferrell is such an awesome teacher (and her name is spelt with two Rs and two Ls). She’s lots of fun and funny too. Assignments are explained extremely well, in class and on the bulletin board. There are lots of resources to look at and assist with further explaining assignments.
