Spanish 4 follows Spanish III. It is a rigorous, year-long class. It offers coursework equivalent to 1 foreign language credit for high school students and is recommended for students in grades 9-12. The prerequisites are Spanish III or prior knowledge of the Spanish language and Latin or English Grammar.

The class includes advanced grammar, vocabulary, writing, speaking, and listening, along with a cultural component and other skills needed for the high school and beyond students such as study skills, time management, technology usage, and more. The primary focus of this class is the verbal competence of the Spanish language.

Students will be graded on their vocabulary knowledge and class participation. There will be a high emphasis on the spoken component of the language and students should be prepared to reflect the expectation.

I loved this class! I have grown so much in my speaking and grammar this year with Sra. Quintanar. Engaging and encouraging, she guided me through the material while at the same time sharing her experiences as someone who lives in Mexico. Sra. Quintanar is a gifted, passionate teacher who truly loves what she does, and it shows!

I enjoyed assignments such as watching the Chosen in Spanish, and learning facts about other countries to share with the class. The midterm and final presentations on a Spanish-speaking country and famous Spanish-speaking person, respectively, were creative outlets to learn more about Spanish culture while enjoying myself at the same time.

This was my first year at True North. In regards to Spanish, I had a solid foundation in the language, but had not learned the vosotros conjugations. At the start of the year, I was a little nervous about taking this class because I hadn’t learned vosotros yet, and it was part of the book. Looking back, it wasn’t hard at all!

My advice to potential Spanish 4 students? Don’t hesitate, take the class! You won’t regret it!

I would love to take Spanish 5 with Sra. Quintanar if it’s offered!
