Live, Accredited American History — Watched, Tasted, and Understood
Forks & Film is a live, weekly online American history class for high school students. Every Monday on Zoom, your student steps into America’s biggest moments through two powerful lenses: film and food. In each era, award-winning movies, documentaries, and shorts bring history vividly to life, and students taste and prepare the dishes that defined those times.
This is not a workbook on a screen, and it is not a self-paced video library. It is a real classroom with a real teacher — a small group where your student is known, called on, and challenged to think. True North Academy is the accredited school. Your family is the home. Together, we point your student toward Truth, Goodness, and Beauty in the American story.
A Class Like No Other
We searched, and we don’t believe anyone else is teaching American history quite like this — weaving together the films that shaped our cultural memory and the food that shaped our history itself. It is Education with a Difference, and it is built for the way real students remember and understand.
Why Food? Because Recipes Tell Us What Textbooks Miss
Food wasn’t just on the table during America’s defining events — it was often the reason they happened in the first place.
- When your student understands that British taxes had been driving up the cost of their morning tea for years, the Boston Tea Party suddenly clicks.
- When they’re rationing sugar and butter the way families did during World War II, Victory Gardens become more than propaganda posters.
- When they see how a Great Depression family stretched one chicken across an entire week, the era stops being a date and becomes real.
Why Film? Because Truth Is Worth Defending
Throughout the year, students sharpen their critical thinking by evaluating how accurately films portray historical events. They learn to separate the historical record from Hollywood’s version of it — and to express what they find through class discussion, debate, written analysis, and presentations. By year’s end, your student won’t just know history. They’ll have watched it, tasted it, questioned it, debated it, and understood how both food and film shaped America.
Six Months of Free VidAngel Access — Included
Every enrolled student receives six months of VidAngel access at no cost, so families can watch all the films covered in class while filtering content according to their own values. Your family explores these historical stories together, on your terms.
What Your Student Will Learn
- The major eras and turning points of American history, from founding through the modern age
- How to read history critically — analyzing events, cultural shifts, and the stories America tells about itself

- How food, trade, and daily life shaped — and were shaped by — the events in the textbook
- Confident historical discussion, debate, written analysis, and presentation skills
