A teenager can be bright, capable, and completely unable to write the email that gets them the internship. Those are learnable, teachable skills, and they are what this semester is about.
BizTalk is part of True North Academy’s Entrepreneurial Series and is delivered as a real-world simulation, which makes it an unusually practical online business communication class for high school. With Beth Purcell, students develop a personal mission, vision, and brand; write resumes, cover letters, and bios; master business etiquette; analyze customer service and practice what excellent service actually requires; and run a mock interview.
Project-based work and roleplay carry most of the learning.
The through-line is a professional portfolio. Students will also begin building their professional identity and personal brand by creating a digital portfolio and learning how to present their skills and accomplishments. Students age 16 and older may create a LinkedIn profile to showcase their projects, certificates, and developing interests; younger students will create a professional profile draft for future use.
They finish the semester holding something they can send to an employer or an admissions officer.
Beth Purcell, True North’s Humanities Department Chair, is an IEW-certified writing instructor with an English degree from the University of South Carolina.

Add BizTalk to the fall 2027 schedule. True North Academy is Cognia-accredited and handles the grading and the credit.
