COURSE OVERVIEW
What if your student could see America's story the way the Founders saw it?
For too many students, American history has been reduced to a timeline — dates to memorize, wars to recite, names to recall by Friday's quiz. But the truer story, the one that lit a fire in the hearts of the men and women who built this nation, runs deeper than any textbook chapter. It is a story of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. A story of Providence. A story your student deserves to know.
Foundations of American Liberty and Government is a full-year, live online class for middle and high school students who are ready to encounter American history and government the way it was meant to be taught — rooted in Scripture, anchored in primary sources, and alive with meaning.
Each Wednesday morning, your student joins Mrs. Jeanette Whittaker and a small class of fellow learners on Zoom for a real conversation about real ideas. This is not a video to watch on your own time. This is a living classroom — with a world-class teacher who knows your student's name, asks them what they think, and walks alongside them as they grow in wisdom and discernment.
A Course Built on America's Christian Heritage
Drawing from treasured resources like The Christian History of the Constitution, Self-Government with Union, and Guardians of Liberty, students will explore the biblical foundations of American liberty — and discover how concepts like self-government, covenant, conscience, and constitutionalism were never political inventions, but the fruit of a deeply Christian worldview.
Together, the class will study:
- The biblical principles that shaped America's founding documents
- The meaning of liberty, union, and self-government in a Christian framework
- Original writings from the Founders, the Pilgrims, and the Puritans
- The role of faith, family, and moral responsibility in a free society
- How to read history with discernment and engage culture with confidence
By the end of the year, your student will not just know about America's founding. They will understand why it happened, Who made it possible, and how to carry its principles forward.
What Your Student Will Gain
Throughout the year, students will:
- Explore the biblical foundations of American liberty and constitutional government
- Examine the Christian principles woven into our nation's founding documents
- Sharpen critical thinking and analytical discussion skills in real-time conversation
- Read and interact with primary source materials and classical historical writings
- Build vocabulary and historical comprehension using the 1828 Webster's Dictionary
- Strengthen worldview discernment through thoughtful historical analysis
- Practice notebooking, writing, and respectful debate in a small-class setting

The course is rich in primary sources and Scripture-centered perspective, and it gave us the tools to engage with American history and government in a meaningful, faith-integrated way.
By the time we completed it, (we used the resources from Pilgrim Institute in our own school) my high schoolers weren’t just memorizing facts—they were learning how to research, reason, relate, and record what they believed, using Scripture as their lens. If you’re looking for a class that teaches real civic understanding without separating it from biblical truth, this is the one. – Gina Glenn Steffy
