Course Description:
In a world of growing cultural diversity and global connections, today’s students need more than just awareness, they need understanding. World Religions: Understanding Global Belief Through a Biblical Lens equips high schoolers from a Judeo-Christian background to thoughtfully explore the world’s major religions while strengthening their own biblical worldview.
Using the Christ-centered World Religions text from Credits Before College and the accessible yet scholarly Pocket Guide to World Religions by Winfried Corduan, students will engage with the core beliefs, practices, and histories of major world religions including:
- Indigenous and tribal traditions
- Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism
- Confucianism, Taoism, and Shinto
- Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
- Modern secular and new religious movements
Through weekly creative projects, research assignments, and worldview comparisons, students will build a respectful understanding of religious differences while learning how to articulate their faith with truth and grace. This course emphasizes critical thinking, cultural humility, and missional awareness.
Learning Goals:
By the end of this course, students will:
- Describe the key beliefs and practices of major world religions
- Compare global religious worldviews to the biblical narrative of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration
- Engage with religious diversity from a place of confidence, compassion, and discernment
- Develop a deeper appreciation for God’s heart for all nations and peoples
- Complete a capstone project that synthesizes learning and applies a biblical worldview to today’s global context
Why This Course Matters:
As your student prepares for college, missions, or everyday interactions in an increasingly pluralistic society, this course helps them become both wise and winsome ambassadors for Christ. Rooted in Scripture, rich in global learning, and designed for independent thinkers, this is a high school religion course with real-world impact.
Assessment:
No tests or quizzes—just meaningful, hands-on projects. Students demonstrate their learning each week through research, creative presentations, interviews, reflection pieces, and a final capstone project.
