Description
Hand Crafts for Kids | Self-Paced Elementary Course
This class is designed to introduce 2nd–5th graders to the joy of handcrafting through fun, engaging, and skill-building projects. Whether your child is learning a new technique like hand sewing or exploring creative possibilities with materials like fabric, yarn, or paper, this course offers a carefully curated selection of crafts that encourage creativity, patience, and hands-on learning.
Along the way, students will also discover rich traditions and artistic expressions of different countries and cultures. These creative explorations help build global awareness and appreciation for the beauty and diversity of handmade art around the world.
Supplies:
Most projects use common household supplies or items you likely already have. Occasionally, a craft might call for something you’ll need to pick up from a store, but we aim to keep these to a minimum and offer alternatives whenever possible.
Important Note: While many projects are designed with kids in mind, some crafts involve tools or materials—like needles, scissors, or hot glue—that require adult supervision. Please make sure a responsible adult is available to assist with setup, monitor safety, and join in the fun!
Let’s get crafting and exploring the world—one project at a time!
Sampling of Projects:
- Weave a Fish (Navajo)
- Marbled Rocks (Florence, Italy)
- Mini Pinata (Central and South America)
- Stained Glass (Europe)
Semester Completion Policy
All self-paced courses must be completed within the semester in which the student is enrolled. While students may work through the material at their own pace, access does not extend beyond the active semester. This policy helps students stay on track, maintain academic momentum, and ensures coursework aligns properly with transcript and credit requirements. We encourage families to plan ahead and schedule consistent time each week for successful completion.
