Teacher Profile
Dr. Kristin Moon
Dr. Moon is the creator of the Kristin Moon Science curriculum. She teaches Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math Skills for Chemistry, and Anatomy & Physiology through True North Homeschool Academy.
About Kristin
Dr. Kristin Moon has been married for 27 years and has two sons, aged 21 and 23. She is a homeschooling veteran who taught her two sons at home from preschool through high school graduation. Her oldest son just graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering (with double minors in Math and Computer Science). Her younger son will graduate this year with a degree in Biology.
Dr. Moon believes that no one truly hates science. When someone says they don’t like science, it’s often because they have a hard time understanding it. Kristin’s goal is to teach science in ways that are fun, memorable, and easy to understand.
When she’s not teaching or sharing resources online to help others to understand and teach science, you can often find Kristin out in the Great Outdoors. A native Floridian now living in Northern Kentucky, she loves fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, and exploring nature. She also enjoys reading and hunting for vintage finds at thrift stores.
Kristin has been a full-time educator for more than 20 years. Not only did she homeschool her own children, but she has taught hundreds of students in homeschool co-ops, science clubs, and live lab intensives.
Her passion for science is contagious, and it’s her mission to get kids (and adults!) excited about the amazing complexity of our world.
Nothing makes her happier than hearing remarks from her students such as, “I never knew science could be so much fun!”
Professional Degrees & Experience
Kristin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and a doctorate in Molecular Genetics from the University of Florida. Before leaving the lab to stay home with her children, she was involved in several research projects. As a doctoral student, she studied viral virulence factors. After earning her Ph.D., Kristin was involved in a project to develop a gene therapy system for macular degeneration.
Dr. Moon is one of those teachers you treasure for years to come. She is truly a favorite now. I enrolled my child in the hopes of earning some high school credit and not having to oversee it myself or grade things. We got so much more!! My kid had no interest in biology and had been set on a geoarchaeology track for years. Dr. Moon’s teaching style was enthusiastic, fun, and thorough. She worked with students individually and stayed in contact throughout the week, keeping the kids focused and engaged. Her passion was contagious and now my kid finds herself considering a biology career. She loved the escape room challenge that was her final exam. Sidenote: She provides all the teaching material so I saved money not having to buy additional books/ texts. Great value for a high school requirement!!
I really love Kristin Moon since she’s always clear and really passionate about what she teaches. If it wasn’t for her, I don’t think I’d ever get into Biology. Science has to be one of my favorite subjects now and I can’t thank her enough.
