About Alan Corlew
Alan was born in the San Joaquin Valley of California and presently resides in Texas, where he and his wife have lived for more than 20 years. He is married to his high sweetheart, Lorrie. They have two adult children (a son and a daughter).
When he was twelve years old, Alan knew he wanted to be a teacher – that is, if that major league baseball player thing didn’t happen. Needless to say, it didn’t – he could not hit a decent high school curve ball! He has taught various Humanities courses over the past 29 years in every grade, from seventh to college undergraduates. He is excited to join the community at TNHA.
When he is not teaching, he likes watching baseball games with his wife, especially those of his beloved San Francisco Giants, as well as mystery shows from the British Commonwealth nations Alan also enjoys playing guitar and mandolin and singing Bluegrass. He loves reading mysteries, classic books, and works on Philosophy, Theology, Biblical Studies, and History.
Professional Degrees & Experience
Alan earned a B.A. in History from California State University and an M.A. in Religion and Philosophy from Wayland Baptist University. He has undertaken further graduate studies in Philosophy and Theology at the master’s and doctoral levels at Reformed Theological Seminary and the University of Tennessee. He has been a long-time member of both the Evangelical Philosophical Society and the Evangelical Theological Society and has made presentations at meetings of both organizations.
I have had the honor of working with Lisa Nehring over the course of many years, both as a colleague and as an instructor for my middle school child. She is well versed in the teaching of literature, composition, and writing to a variety of ages. Lisa clearly states objectives and offers realistic goals to her students. As a parent and home educator, she offered suggestions and guidance that were attainable and gave me the confidence to guide my child towards success. Lisa has years of experience and insight into a variety of educational strategies and programs. As a fellow educator and homeschooling parent, her expertise and encouragement are top-notch. We have had multiple opportunities to collaborate and for me (and my child) to benefit from her wisdom. Any student or parent who has the opportunity to work with Lisa will benefit and be equipped to move forward in their educational journey.
