Writing Skills 4: U.S. History is designed for 4th through 8th graders. This Elementary Writing class will teach your elementary students the structure of basic writing, as well as stylistic techniques, some grammar, vocabulary, and more!

What We Will Read and Write About in Writing Skills 4: U.S. History

We will be time-traveling back through United States history in this class! We will read and write about everything from the early explorers to the American Revolution and Westward Expansion. 

Our Text for Writing Skills 4: U.S. History

Our text will be the Institute for Excellence in Writing’s U.S. History-themed curriculum, from which we will learn to write skillfully with the Structure and Style® writing method. 

How Our Class Time Is Structured

Our class time will be devoted to reading each week’s reading passage and then working together to implement specific writing styles. As we learn how to better our writing, each student will be responsible for writing one piece every week based on the content and style learned in class.

Students can read their own writing in class and listen to and appreciate their classmates' writing.  We will learn how to best critique each other’s work positively and how to improve our writing by working together.  

Writing Skills 4: U.S. History will include English grammar instruction. This will be an important part of this class, and students will solidify their understanding and usage of parts of speech, types of sentences, and much more!

Writing Skills 4: U.S. History is a full-year course that is best for students in 4th-8th grade. 

The text includes vocabulary cards, literature suggestions, and access to helpful PDF downloads. Elementary Writing is a fun and inspiring class that will give your students the skills that they need for future writing success!
