World Literature and Composition

World Literature and Composition is a year-long, 1-credit class that counts toward the required high school level language arts in literature and composition.

This college preparatory English course is particularly well-suited for upper-level High School students, especially those taking other coursework covering ancient and world history, art, and/or music.

Students will read and analyze full-length classic masterpieces of Western Civilization and complete writing assignments as guided by the instructor.  Students will engage in guided Socratic-style class discussions about these literary works and learn to present carefully crafted ideas in writing.

The course is taught from a Christian worldview; however, literature often represents a variety of worldviews. This course will help students uncover the unique worldview revealed in each text and how it relates to the cultural and historical context of its time. Additionally, the course will foster proficiency in literary analysis, essay organization, style, and mechanics.

Tamara Pool is an excellent tutor and a pleasure to work with (for parents and students alike). She has an excellent knowledge and understanding of the key facets of literature, analysis, writing, and revision, and she is able to make these concepts accessible to students. Her communication with both students and parents is solid and makes her very easy to work with.

I have been impressed with the essays my children have conceptualized, outlined, written and revised in her classes, and under her instruction. She has been a great asset to my children’s literature and essay-writing development as middle and early high school students. They have grown in understanding and skill as a result of her work with them.

She has also worked hard to be flexible and receptive to my desires and instructions as a parent. I’ve really appreciated her flexibility and diligence.

    Sincerely,
    Susan Arico
