This one-credit class is for Middle and High School students studying any level of Latin from any curriculum.
The Classical Studies portion of this class will align with and build upon the students’ Latin language studies to enhance their understanding of classical Rome: Roman life, culture, language and history. Using easy reading material and assigned videos, students will complete projects and participate in class discussion posts.
NLE Test Prep will focus on Latin vocabulary, grammar, and syntax, as well as Roman culture, history, geography, and mythology in preparation for the National Latin Exam (optional), taken in the spring of each year. Students may take the NLE online, or in the privacy of their own homes. Families will receive coaching on the test registration process. (There is a separate fee for the test, typically around $20)
The National Latin Exam is an optional yet excellent addition to any Latin program and is a fantastic way to study culture, history, and geography. NLE Awards and Certificates are a welcome addition to students’ transcripts and could help students win important opportunities and college scholarships.
The study of Latin is a wonderful way to really instill a deep understanding and appreciation of English grammar, vocabulary and attention to detail as well as gain a deep appreciation for Western culture. Furthermore, it sets students up for success with future Foreign Language studies.
