Short Story
Short Story is perfect for students who love to read, write and create! if you have a student who is always jotting down story ideas, creating characters, or role-playing, you’ll want to equip them to write well!
This six-week summer class that will take your student on a thorough tour of discovery as they learn, understand and implement the elements of writing a short story! Students will learn to write well and learn the basic elements of great story-telling, setting themselves up for success as they delve into literary analysis in high school and beyond!
Students will be guided step-by-step through:
- setting
- characters
- plot
- conflict
- theme
This will guide students through the entire process of writing a successful short story, ending the class with a complete and well-structured short story!

Mrs. Sonya Hemmings will be teaching several classes in the fall, including National Latin Exam Prep, History , US Literature and Composition. Students love Mrs. Hemmings’s clear guidance and direction, kind and helpful assessments, and high standards of excellence.
Suggested (not required) Texts: IEW experience helpful, but not required.
This course is appropriate for high schoolers or for capable students in grades 7 and up who may want to earn high school credit in junior high.
