Description
Join us this year for an exciting, unique look at the world of plants! Students can expect to have a basic understanding of plant life, learn the purpose of plants, and appreciate their beauty. Content will include plant anatomy, appreciating herbs & medicinal plants, foraging, gardening & more! Students will learn how to keep a science notebook, as well as participate in labs. This class is suited for junior high students (6th-8thth grade) can be used as a high school elective. This course would be an excellent elective for high school students considering careers in Medicine, Environmental Sectors or Education.
PREREQUISITES:
Successful completion of an elementary-level science program, which may include your own homeschool program OR True North Science Explorers A and/or B.
REQUIRED TEXTS AND RESOURCES:
- Handbook of Nature Study by Anna Botsford Comstock (note: This book is used for multiple junior high science courses)
- Blank Composition or Spiral Bound Notebook, which will be used for the science notebook. If you student plans to include watercolor for notebooking, consider using a Mixed Media style notebook. A Google-based digital notebook will also be provided if a student prefers to take digital notes.
- Notebooking Supplies: Writing utensils of your choice which may include pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers etc. Your student may also enjoy a nice water color set for sketches, but it is completely optional! If using a digital notebook, your student may enjoy having the Google Slides app installed on secondary devices (phone, Ipad etc), but it is completely optional to do so.
