Dawn Pasley
Fridays 9 AM CST
This is a fun summer class and an excellent introduction into this fascinating language! YES! ASL is recognized as a foreign language. In the US, ASL is among the top languages used. It is used by mothers, teachers, interpreters, audiologists, counselors, law enforcement, and even in unique places like scuba diving!
ASL (American Sign Language) is a distinctive language with a fascinating history! Did you know that it is similar to French Sign Language? This summer we will learn what this connection is. Do you know there’s a connection to football and ASL? There is! These and many more facts will be taught in this class. In addition, we will learn some fun vocabulary, finger spelling, culture of the Deaf community, linguistics, and even a little ASL grammar! Learning will be achieved through fun games, short conversations, and songs. We will even have a guest who will talk to us about their career using ASL!
