True North Homeschool Academy Teacher
Katie teaches Introduction to Apologetics
Katie resides in Lynchburg Virginia with her dog River, but makes frequent trips to Roanoke where her parents, sister and nieces reside. Her two brothers reside in other parts of the U.S. and she loves to visit and go fishing with them. Her favorite hobbies include hiking and backpacking in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains with her dog River. Katie aspires to hike the entire Appalachian trail one day!
Katie was homeschooled from first to twelfth grade and loved her experience. She has taught Music Theory in local co-ops and began the first homeschooled theatre class in her area. Katie loved her experience as a homeschooler, and loves to give back to the community that supported her through her childhood.
Professional Degrees & Experience
Katie earned a bachelor degree in Vocal Music Performance from Liberty University. Shortly after, Katie was hired by a music school as their voice instructor. She has also been hired by local schools as a music director for Musical productions. Katie also teaches Ballet, Pointe, and other dance styles in the community.
She continues her education through Liberty University and is pursuing both a M.A. in Christian Apologetics and a M.A. in Music Education Performance and is projected to complete both degrees in 2021.
I have had the honor of working with Lisa Nehring over the course of many years, both as a colleague and as an instructor for my middle school child. She is well versed in the teaching of literature, composition, and writing to a variety of ages. Lisa clearly states objectives and offers realistic goals to her students. As a parent and home educator, she offered suggestions and guidance that were attainable and gave me the confidence to guide my child towards success. Lisa has years of experience and insight into a variety of educational strategies and programs. As a fellow educator and homeschooling parent, her expertise and encouragement are top-notch. We have had multiple opportunities to collaborate and for me (and my child) to benefit from her wisdom. Any student or parent who has the opportunity to work with Lisa will benefit and be equipped to move forward in their educational journey.
